How do you know this is in Russia? - Jmabel ! talk 16:59, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Jmabel: . Russian tanks (T34s). The flag says 9th of May. There is a brown and yellow band on the flag, a symbol mostly used by Russians (e.g in the War against Ukraine). Best guess, it's somewhere in Russia. I'm open to delete as it cannot be used.
- I've been able to categorize three or four photos. Not very promising anyway. B25es (talk) 17:05, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- And this couldn't be (say) Belarus? (FWIW, I hadn't noticed the tanks, and yes they narrow it way down.) - Jmabel ! talk 22:18, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Jmabel: There are more "500px photo (lamadrequeloparió)" files of this event. I found one with a child holding the flag. The child was "Caucasian". People were dressed in what in Spain are "winter clothes". And the event is "Russian" in style.
- So it's not in Africa, South Asia or South America (because of the cloths). Not in North America or Oceania (mix of cloths and Russian stuff, not enough T34s in Australia for that parade). Not China or North Korea (European looking child)... Is somewhere in former USSR. Definitely not Ukraine, Estonia, Lavtia, Letonia or Georgia...
- I'm starting to feel like opening a category "Things in Eurasia that maybe user Darwin knows where and what they are".
- Or in a more "politically correct" way, refrain from categorizing any more of that and just "erase in order to make profitable things".
- I'm very "hasta los cojones" of people that uploads a killion files and give little or no indication of what that stuff is about. Once I popped into a very interesting document of the Peninsular Wars related to Madrid capitulation, and the category was something like "Library XYZ, London".
- Maybe I change category this afternoon, once I come back home.
- Thanks for your interest, is really encouraging that there's more people in this.
- B25es (talk) 05:13, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- If you don't know: we did a massive scrape of 500px because they were changing their licensing, hence the enormous number of uncurated uploads. - Jmabel ! talk 17:19, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- And this couldn't be (say) Belarus? (FWIW, I hadn't noticed the tanks, and yes they narrow it way down.) - Jmabel ! talk 22:18, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
Bad quality is not a reason for speedy deletion
[edit]Bad quality of files or file metadata is not a reason for speedy deletion. The criteria on Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion are a closed list. Nominate such files for regular deletion and not for speedy deletion. GPSLeo (talk) 10:21, 26 June 2025 (UTC)
- Due note taken. I didn't speedy any more files. B25es (talk) 13:27, 26 June 2025 (UTC)
File:Pesca angola fao 99 08.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!
[edit]
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
