How we are helping

We are supporting Eco-Sud to engage communities, train staff and partners, and develop new educational and advocacy tools.

About the project

The Foundation’s capacity strengthening grants stream supports smaller Commonwealth civil society organisations in smaller Member States, building their expertise and enhancing their capacity to influence policy.

Eco-Sud is an environmental organisation working to protect nature and support vulnerable communities in Mauritius. With support from the Foundation, the organisation will design new training and advocacy tools, develop youth programmes, and strengthen its staff and partner engagement processes.

The key actions for this project are:

  • Engaging communities
    • Hosting meetings to collect first-hand testimonies from vulnerable communities.
    • Developing tailored outreach and communication tools based on lived experiences.
  • Developing education and advocacy
    • Creating interactive programmes for young people to raise awareness of environmental protection.
    • Organising a creative and design workshop with civil society organisations and artists to produce educational content.
  • Strengthening internal systems
    • Enhancing the staff appraisal system with Key Performance Indicators tailored to each role.
    • Gathering input to shape a training-of-trainers (ToT) programme for civil society partners.

As a result of the project, it is hoped that Eco-Sud will be better equipped to deliver evidence-based advocacy and training rooted in community needs. Civil society partners will be empowered through shared learning, while staff development will improve organisational performance. The new tools and programmes will strengthen Eco-Sud’s outreach, helping to build a more resilient and inclusive environmental movement across Mauritius.
